Sheikh Hasina doesn't want army: Amini

Islami Oikya Jote (IOJ) chairman Mufti Fazlul Haque Amini on Monday alleged that machination is on to destroy the army in the name of searching out fundamentalist elements in it.
“Sheikh Hasina doesn't want army in the country. But, if the army is destroyed, everything of Hasina will also be ruined,” he said at a discussion at his party’s temporary office at Lalbagh in the capital.

Amini also alleged that the BDR carnage was staged in a planned way to make Bangladesh subservient to India. “This is the act of India,” he said.

The IOJ chief went on: "A time may come for us to become the slaves of India, if the unreasonable activities of the government are tolerated. I hope Sheikh Hasina will seek apology to alem-ulema for her activities. I've heard ministers and MPs were already sent to Islamic scholars for seeking apology.”

Referring to the Prime Minister’s remarks that Khaleda Zia is trying to capture power by using the army, Amini said all the time army came to power by putting guns on the shoulder of people; how Khaleda will come to power by resting guns on the shoulder of the army. “This is Hasina’s childish remarks,” he added.

About journalist couple Sagar-Runi murder, he said primarily it seemed as a small incident; but later it appeared as a big event. Now efforts are on to create the story of another `Joj’ Mia. “Truth will be revealed by the next government.”

The IOJ leader accused Sheikh Hasina of pursuing the politics of kidnap and killing, but giving lip service to democracy. He said: “If democracy exists in the country, why he has been kept under house arrest for the last 10 months.”

IOJ secretary general Maulana Abdul Latif Nizami said Sagar and Runi were killed as they had tried to protect the country’s natural gas. The conspiracy of killing the journalist couple was cooked up in America, he alleged.

He demanded the withdrawal of restriction on free movement of Mufti Amini by April 4; otherwise, they threatened to build up a mass movement.

The meeting was also addressed by Khelafat Andolon Ameer Maulana Shah Abdullah Ashraf.
